In the last post we tried to talk about the ‘Jinnah was secular’ issue of Mr. Advani. But the conversation with the friend in which she declared Mr. Advani a confused man did not end there. My friend and some of her seniors were very critical of BJP.
‘How can a party that supports RSS’s idiotic ideology be supported? How can a party rule on basis of Hindutva?’ Here demolition of Babri Masjid and the Gujarat riots were the major issue of their concern.
For all those who do not understand the ideology of RSS or BJP have similar things to say. But out rightly declaring it idiotic without knowing anything about it is more idiotic I suppose.
A little recap of history here; Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee had certain points of disagreement with the Nehru administration which forced him to resign from the cabinet in 1950. In 1951 he founded Bhartiya Jan Sangh [which later came to be known as Bhartiya Janta Party] on lines of this ‘idiotic ideology’.
He opposed Mr. Nehru’s favoritism to Indian Muslims [pseudo-secualrism]; proposed a uniform civil code for Hindus and Muslims and argued for the end of special status given to the Jammu and Kashmir state [which is considered to be one of the biggest political mistakes in Indian history]. He was against the congress’s decision of giving J&K the status of special state, with its separate flag, prime minister and constitution. He gave the slogan
‘Ek desh mein do Vidhan, do Pradhan aur do Nishan nahi chalenge’
there can’t be two constitutions, two prime ministers and two national emblems in one country, which I don’t think is idiotic at all.
Why this biasness towards one state? How come demanding ban on cow slaughter is communal and giving subsidy for Haj travel is secular? How a uniform civil code for all the citizens of one country is communal? Why in one secular country, only talking about Muslim benefit is considered secular? Why at all talk about Muslim or Hindu benefit, if we are secular? Why can’t things be on even keel for every religion? If those who talk about Hindus are communal then why not those who talk about Muslims? [Who’s Secular and Who’s not?]
His vision was clear; no favoritism! He was strictly against appeasement on the bases of religion. This is BJP’s ideology! This is Sangh’s ideology! And if it appears to be idiotic or communal to people, then I don’t have anything else to say. It is good to be an idiot.
